Canary Island Date Palms originate from the DESERT ISLANDS off Northwest Africa. Therefore they do extremely well in well drained sandy soils and have an above average SALT TOLERANCE. Their wing span is 25 ft and they can grow to 50 ft at a rate of 4″ per year in our region. Canary palms are often used as center pieces and are most often substituted with SILVESTER PALMS, their HARDIER cousin.
